Moshing started in the 1980s as youth reacted to hardcore music. Voguing evolved out of the Harlem ballroom dance scene. Gangnam Style became a craze after a billion viewers watched it on youtube. The truth is many dance forms are the result of groups of people rather then a single master choreographer. As part of the Champlain Maker Faire, Vermont-based intermedia group Double Vision will invite the audience to collectively choreograph some of the areas best dance talent. Together, we will Make A Dance. But how will this be done? The tools of today. Computers, cameras, sensors, and most importantly, lots of human bodies!

DOUBLE VISION creates experimental performances for dance, music, and video. Recently, the group has been interested in the use of complex systems and interaction to create choreographed experiences. Make A Dance will turn simple audience interaction into visually stunning movements. As with many larger complex systems (climate, migration, the universe) computers extend our human capabilities to make “sense” of tons of data. Double Vision will create similarly influenced computer vision software to analyze the audience and create a new dance in the Coach Barn.

DOUBLE VISION dancers include Hanna Satterlee, Avi Waring, Willow Wonder, choreography by Pauline Jennings, sound by Sean Clute and video by Jessica Gomula.

Champlain Mini Maker Faire is a family-friendly event to MAKE, create, learn, invent, CRAFT, recycle, think, play and be inspired by celebrating arts, crafts, engineering, food, music, science and technology. The New York Times wrote “the Maker movement has brought the pre-1970s world of basement workshops and amateur tinkering into the digital age.”

As an outsider, intermedia performance group Double Vision has been dipping into numerous galleries, events, performances and chance encounters in Berlin Germany. To the groups founders one thing is clear: Berlin is in a state of becoming. Unlike other metropolitan cities such as New York, San Francisco or London, Berlin's identity seems less rooted in its past. Visually, one can see ten towering cranes from one street corner in the "historic" Unter den Linden - the visual presence of evolution can be seen everywhere.

Double Vision's new work, Resampling Berlin, is influenced by the city's state of change. The performance features dance, video, sound and installation. All elements echo each other as well as the surroundings of the event itself. For example, the live video can be seen projecting random resampled pixels of the performance environment. The solo dance also amplifies the idea of emergence through angular patterns, polyrhythmic structures, and a body that appears to be emulating all of the city's gestures at once.

The premier of Resampling Berlin is a first for Double Vision. It's members, choreographer Pauline Jennings, media artist Sean Clute, and designer Amy Nielson, have never before created and performed a piece in Berlin; but have always dreamed of doing so. Intrigued by the city's state of becoming, the collaborators are energized to contribute a tiny part to Berlin's new history.
